Your role

HyET Hydrogen is looking for an experienced, ambitious and energetic CTO to help us accelerating the development and introduction of our unique electrochemical compression and separation technologies, and thereby guiding a team of innovative highly skilled passionate employees towards success.

With your experience in leading industrial R&D programs, you will fulfil a crucial bridging role between HyET’s R&D team and its customers. You will be part of the Management Team and need to ensure that our development roadmap will be executed in a good manner and your team is fully behind you. Current development tracks are supported by strategic customers who have an interest in our technology by ways of Joint Development projects where we define prospective Product-Market combinations. Your goal is to drive the development in a fast-moving pace to ensure sustainable revenue growth in the future and also maintaining a strong relationship with (strategic) clients and ensuring the technology targets are meeting their requirements.  As head of the R&D team, you will be responsible for executing the roadmap while ensuring we meet our deadlines on time, within budget and with good results. You will also be asked to represent HyET in communications with clients; oversee the development and growth of profitable business leads; create and apply effective sales strategies for specific market segments; develop and maintain effective key customer relationships.

What are you going to do

  • Growing the business and R&D Team (currently 15 FTE) of HyET Hydrogen through identifying prospective relevant technology platforms to match high value market opportunities in key market segments and setting the right priorities.
  • Ensure alignment between HyET’s R&D roadmap and Marketing strategy by setting realistic performance targets to meet customers’ requirements for specific market-product combinations in close co-operation with the Product & Technology managers, CEO and the COO.
  • Keeping oversight over all the activities related to our core hydrogen processing technology via cross departmental communication and alligment.
  • Manage the portfolio of strategic business leads and develop new business leads and strategic account opportunities together with the Product & Technology Managers.
  • Initiate and conduct market research to match market needs with technology capabilities (sweet spots), identify technology gaps and translate these to R&D targets;
  • Benchmarking HyET’s technologies and products with state-of-the-art practices and new technology developments, in order to initiate product improvements together with manufacturing partners. Join Development partners and the COO;
  • Internal, management and board reporting.

What we are looking for

  • PhD in a relevant technical discipline (preferably chemical engineering /electrochemistry/ electro-chemical) engineering / industrial engineering;
  • More than 10 years working experience in leadership roles either as a commercially oriented technology manager or a CTO in a high-tech industry (preferably in the process industry and/or energy sector);
  • Experience in leading industrial R&D projects to mature technology to TRL-8 level or higher;
  • Strong network in the energy/ hydrogen market and preferably sustainable energy market segments;
  • Proficiency in the English language; one or more extra language(s) is a plus;
  • Pro-active and persuasive attitude and creative problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and coaching skills;
  • Background in writing/filing patents, submitting academic publications.
